THE COLORS OF WHEATEN

Some of you have asked
if all of the puppies are Wheatens
and if they will change colors.
To answer that question,
yes they are all
Wheaten Scottish Terriers
and they will darken some as their
adult coat comes in.

Piper,
who is the sire of these puppies,
is a very red Wheaten.
It's hard to tell in his pictures,
just how dark he is.
The darkest part of their fur
is the part that is next to the skin.
After seeing Sadie's great grooming,
we see that we have a long way to go.
If Mom stripped us more,
Piper would be very red.

This shows the difference
of Piper and Carrleigh.
Piper is the one in the swimming pool
and Carrleigh is thinking about jumping in.

In the snow,
it's easier to see the difference.
Carrleigh is more the color of a toasted marshmallow
and Piper is more of a strawberry blond.

The puppies are three Wheaten shades.
There are 2 light ones,
3 dark ones
and 4 who are in between.

The darkest ones now
are about the color of peanut butter,
which is very dark for a Wheaten Scottie
and that is the color that Mom finds most desirable.
It depends on the person
as to which color you prefer.
There is no color that is better
than the other according to the judges.

To see about all of the
AKC recognized color of Scotties,
please go to this post.

Color, schmolor. They are all cute! (Although it is interesting that you guys darken as you get older - we poodle types tend to get lighter as we get older... I started off very red, and now I'm a dark apricot. Abby is apricot now, and will likely end up as a light apricot.)

They all look super cute and we're so happy one little girl is named after Angel Snickers - we're sure she'll be just as sweet and beautiful as her name sister.

They are all pretty, no matter what shade or color. And they all will have their own unique personalities. That is what counts most. Little cupcakes...

They are soooooo flippin cute! I am light wheaten like Carrleigh, but have a reddish streak down my back. I suspect if I was handstripped, the red would show up more. On the other hand, I'm kinda wiggly as it is, I don't think I could tolerate much of that pulling on my furrs. She does my furnishings sometimes, and I'm not so happy when she does. Sending soft woofie kisses to the puppies..kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss and one more to grow on...KISS!

They are all just lovely. I was always stripey and PeeWee was always black, but I have heard that some doggies such as yourself change colors as they grow up which is really cool.

We wondered who the proud Daddy was, congrats to Piper. All the Wheaten colors are beautiful. We just love seeing all those babies. Life is busy here with Ciara so we may not be able to comment as often as we would like but we will try to do the best we can.

Have a great weekend.
