HAPPY HOWL-O-WEEN

Since we've never had
Howl-O-Ween babies before,
we decided to turn the blog
over to
Lilly and the buglets
for today.

Three of the buglets
wanted to dress as triplets.

But since we know
you are all thinking it,
we could not resist
including this
"three blind mice" pose.

Here we have two of the most
adorable firefighters
you've ever seen.

Happy Howl-O-Ween
from our clan to yours.

GROWING OUT OF OUR HOME..

When babies are born,
they live in a whelping box
with their Mom
until their eyes are open
and they are walking around.

When Mom has to clean their whelping box
(usually at this stage, it's twice a day)
she finds another box to put them in.

This time it was a
Coca-Cola box.
She put a nice soft towel
in the bottom
and then lined it with a fleece blanket.
When the puppies leave us,
they will get to take
one of these fleece blankets
home with them so they
will have the smell of their litter
to comfort them for a night or two.

But they are growing so fast
that Mom thinks that soon
she'll have to
"break out the basket"
because her Coca-Cola box
will not hold them too many more days!!

Look at Mr. Brodie -
already over a pound -
and by tomorrow,
we feel that the rest of the puppies
will join him!!

Here is Miss Iverness.
Mom caught her sitting down
but as soon as she saw Mom,
she leaped up
and started running toward her.
It's like we've told you before -
Ivy sits still for no woman's camera!!

A CONTEST TO CELEBRATE!!

It was just a regular, rainy day
on
Rocky Creek Farm.

As usual,
Mom wanted to line the puppies up
and get a cute photograph.
They complied on the cuteness,
but not on the lining up.

Every time she got them in a row,
they got back in a pile
before she could pick up her camera.

Then she started to notice some long toenails.
She had clipped a few here and there,
but today was the first official
"toe-nail clipping" day.
Like all terriers,
they hated it!!

Soon they were back in their
pleasing puppy pile
and going back to sleep.

We wanted to let your know that the
big sissy, Becky Bluebonnet
and
Uncle Gussie

to the puppies
is hosting a giveaway
in honor of their birth.

There will be FIVE gifts
and the drawing will be on Halloween.

To be entered,
all you have to do is leave a comment
on either their blog or ours -
if you haven't visited theirs, you should.
They have some phenomenal photos!!

THE BUGLETS ARE ONE WEEK OLD TODAY!!

It's hard for us
to believe the buglets
are one week old today!!

Who,
but our Mom,
would grab a buglet
away from its Mom
to take its first week photograph?

She does this because she knows
as soon as she lays it back down,
it will go right back to what it was doing
before she picked it up.

You can see that
Miss Holly
is still wearing a smidgen
of the nail polish
that Mom uses to identify
the pups when they are born.

Snazzi Jazzi -
she's a smirker already.
Better keep an eye out -
Lacie-cakes will be over
trying to teach her a trick or three!!

Little Miss Emma Lynn -
so sweet and demure.
She better get rested up
because she's got a 7 month
old wheaten Scottie brother
waiting at home for her.

Every litter has one "big boy"
and this litter didn't disappoint us -
look at those muscles on Brodie!!

And our little Argyle -
he really wanted to get back
to the business of having his din-din.

Have a great day.

TO ANSWER THE QUESTION.....

Our Mom has been a dog lover
all her life
and always dreamed of raising puppies.

Some of you who are new to our blog
have wondered about the parents
of the puppies we have now.

This is
Spencer's Lilly Greer
before she came to live with us.

Here she is the day
she moved into our home
and took over our life.

Now she is the lovely matriarch
of our pack -
and the mother
of the five buglets.

This is a 10 week old Piper
looking over Mom's shoulder.

Rocky Creek's Bagpiper
has always been the most
self-assured dog
and loves to pose for the camera.

He grew into a handsome
young stud, but still retained
his loving nature.
Piper is the father of the buglets.

Mom still seeks to get a great photo
of him and Lilly together.
One day.....

BANG THE DRUMS!!
BLOW THE HORNS!!
We have an announcement to make!!
We usually don't know this early
in a puppy's life where they will live,
but we do know about Colleen.
Colleen will be moving to Kentucky
and from now on,
her name will be
Rocky Creek's Emma Lynn
and we will call her Emma.

SOME HABITS START AT AN EARLY AGE

Just when we get the buglets
all lined up in a row
to take their photograph -

Holly, Jazzi, Colleen, Brodie and Argyle

They decide they aren't happy
with the order that they are placed in -
remind you of anydog you know?

Of course, now we can't tell if they are sleeping
or being shy

but this one boy
already knows he doesn't
want to lie on his back!!
And he already knows
how to growl.
Check out those little bear paws!!

Colleen and Brodie
cuddle together while they
wait patiently for their turn
to be weighed and imprinted
before they are put back
in their clean bed with their Mom.

This morning we heard our Mom say
that having five puppies
is a "piece of cake".
Ever since then,
we've been looking for it.
If you know where she put it,
let us know -
we're ready for a bite or two.

WE'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE...

Our Mom helped Lilly
deliver the buglets
and then she was
off to Pennsylvania
to take our
Granny and Mary
to
see the play,
Joseph.

Dad watched us.

Today,
Mom took
Lilly and the buglets
to the Vet
for their checkup
and dew claw removal.

After they got home,
had din-din
and rested,
she decided
it was time
for their first single photograph.

We have named them
so we can tell them apart.
Their new peeps
will change their names
when they go home with them.

Here they are
in their birth order.

Holly
(named in honor of Auntie Holly who
supported us spiritually
through this whole pregnancy)

Jazzi
(named after "you know who"
and is the loudest puppy in the litter)

Colleen
(named in honor of our
Scottie furiend, Colleen)

Brodie

Argyle
( named in honor of Lilly's sweetie)

BUGLETS, BUGLETS, BUGLETS......

We had been watching
our Lillybug
closely to see
when the day would be.

Mom predicted Thursday,
but she didn't think
it would be so
early in the morning.

The first buglet
arrived at 4:20 am.

We're fairly sure
that Mom can count -
but who knows -
she's been wrong before.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!

Our giveaway for the free postcards
from UPrinting
ended at midnight
last night.

Mom typed out all of the names for us
and got them ready.
She never lets us use the scissors
because all we do is run with them -
and it scares her half to death!!

She folded all the names
and put them in a little plate.

To make it more interesting,
she sprinkled around a few
Charlie Bears.

She sat the plate down on the floor
and watched very carefully
for us to nose out the
first name.

Then she picked it up-

And read it to us -

Congrats to
Hound Girl.
Her blog will win
100 postcards
from UPrinting!!

FALL ACROSS THE BLUE RIDGE

As they started up our driveway,
Dad started telling Mom
that he brought along the camera
just in case
they happened upon
a grand and glorious photo.

About that time,
he raised his head
and saw all of these buzzards
sitting atop of our fence post.

After they allowed Dad to
take a few snapshots,
they decided to take flight.

One lone one decided
to do a "totem pole" dance for him.

The rest of the day
was spent exploring
the gorgeous countryside.

They never got more than
25 miles from home.

It just seemed like a great little staycation.

Farmers markets

Buckwheat cakes with gravy

Little whittled animals

Ghostly pumpkins

We're not sure what this is -
it could be Virginia Creeper.

Apple crates
waiting to be filled.

Apple trees
that had already been picked.

And the day ended with a glass
of
Foggy Ridge Apple Cider.

We hope you had a great weekend.
