OUR MINI ORCHIDS

When we step
out on our porch
this time of year,
we are greeted
with a delightful aroma.

Our house is surrounded
by Catalpa Trees
or as we tend to call them -
"bean trees".

They have lovely blooms.
that last for about a week.

The blooms hang in clusters
among the large leaves
that are about the size of dinner plates.

Each individual bloom
is approximately the size
of a quarter
and resembles a small orchid.

Soon they will fall like snow
and be replace with long beans
which are food for catalpa worms.
Luckily, we never get the worms!!

Have a great weekend.

SUMMERTIME ACROSS THE BLUE RIDGE

Many mornings
Mom goes to pick fresh blueberries
before we get out of bed
and we wake to the smell
of blueberry pancakes and coffee.

Deer watch us
as we go about our days

Ole Tom Turkey
struts around our yard
watching over his hens and chicks

Mom's fingers are stained
from the sweet warm juice
of heirloom black raspberries.

Black raspberries wait
to be made into goodies for us.

We have home-made preserves

to spread on
hot Lemon Raspberry Muffins

The sound of hay being mowed
and baled coupled with the sweet smell of it
is music to our ears as we go about the day.

Lemonade and ice water
are the official drinks of summer
at Rocky Creek Farm.

We think it is safe to say
that Summertime is here
across the Blue Ridge Mountains
and we are enjoying every minute of it
to the fullest.

If you travel close to us,
please stop by for a visit.

XOXO
