WHAT COLOR IS A WHEATEN SCOTTIE?

Some of you have commented
on the colors of the Sweet Babes.

The media portrays Scotties
as all being black.
It just tickles our Mom
when she can find something
with a
Wheaten colored Scottie
on it.

The AKC recognizes 6 colors of Scotties,
but Dr. T. Allen Kirk in his book,
This is the Scottish Terrier
states there are 10 distinct colors
ranging from
black, being the darkest, to
wheaten, being the lightest.

Sometimes when people see us out
with our Peeps,
they ask what kind of dogs we are
(well not Lilly)
and when Mom tells them we are
Wheaten Scottish Terriers,
they want to argue with her that
Scottish Terriers are all black.
Sometimes she thinks she should
carry our AKC registration papers
in our little tartan bags
just so she could show them!

You can see the difference
in the colors of
The Sweet Babes.
They range from "peanut-butter"
to very lightly "toasted marshmallow".
Their color will darken as they age,
but they will never, ever, ever be black.

Little Guthrie is just a tad
darker in color
than Kilts and Bonnie.
When they are adults,
they will probably
all be the same color.

Jock and Fergus
are the "peanut-butter" babies
in this litter -
they will both be
about the same color
as our handsome, red king, Ruairi.

This synchronized pair are
Kilts and Bonnie -
they are the lightest puppies.
The camera fools you into
thinking that one is larger than the other
when in reality there is only
about an ounce difference
in their weight.

And these triplets are
Jazzi, Lynzi and Mackie
(in no certain order)

But when you put them all together
against Carrleigh,
you can see the differences
in their color.

And that they all have little
"muscle-butts"

just like their handsome father, Piper.
