PSA - PROTECT YOUR PET FROM THE SUN

As a person with a true red-head complexion,
our Mom has always been aware of the dreaded
SUNBURN.
From the time she was a child,
she was always slathered in sun screen
and sometimes even in the winter
you can even smell the faint aroma
of cocoa butter if you get close to her.
Peeps, don't forget your sunscreen when going out.
Remember the sun is at its strongest
between the hours of
10:00 am and 3:00pm.

But more importantly,
please realize that you dog is susceptible
to sunburn,
especially light dogs like
Carrleigh and Piper,
And too much sun exposure
will not only cause painful sunburn,
but it can cause skin cancer as well.

Many dogs love to lie in the sun,
please be careful if yours is one of them
and monitor the amount of time
that it spends in sunlight.

There are special
sunscreens for dogs,
but if you don't have one,
then a spray on sunscreen
for babies would work also.
Be careful not to get it in their eyes.

XOXO
Lilly, Piper, Carrleigh and Ruairi

We use The Flee Scene from Happy Tails, it is a sunscreen, bug repellent and skin soother. The smell is nice too.

Thanks for that PSA. PeeWee and I LOVE to bake until we are sizzling hot, but sometimes momma watches the clock and makes us come in while we are only half baked.

Ah yes, the bipeds here all have the lovely white skin and own stock in suncreen. Our furs are so thick, we don't have to worry too much about sunburn, but the sun does ten to change our colors a bit and really can dry out the coat.

Have a great sunny week.

Tsar has very light skin, so he usually only goes out in the morning and evening. Morgan has a light nose, so she wears sunscreen on her nose and we don't let her sunbathe.

It's an important message to get out. Many people don't think about their pets sunburning.

With our black scottie Macbeth we have to be careful of his spending too much time in the sun due to overheating! We had a close call when he was a pup...happens very quickly but after 20 minutes in a tub, lots of water and a long nap he was fine...Mom on the other hand was terrified for weeks afterward...

Thank you for the reminder! When we had Sugar we were very conscious because she was white... sometimes we forget that the kiddlets can get sun damage too! I'm going to start spraying them with Sugar's spray sun screen just to keep 'em safe!

Thank you for the information about canine sunburns and general info. altogether. I'm prone to sunburn & skin cancer, my sister Gail is a redhead and my mother and I are all fair skin skinned. Did not know there is sunscreen to buy for our four pawed friends.

We're VERY aware of the sun in Oz. We only go for walks at dawn and twilight in summer. During the day, we hibernate in the house.

A great reminder!! I always forget about this!! A patient in the office where I was telling me today that she left her boxer outside in the heat one day last week and he ended up with heat stroke--I told her I was glad he was okay, but that's really not what I wanted to say to her!! grrrrrr....are my hackles up?

thanks for the reminder!
booker doesn't have that problem with his thick fur, but we have to worry about sunburn with asa. she's got a very short coat and sensitive skin, not to mention that she loves to sunbathe!

I do keep a close eye on our dear Maximus or else he'd stay in the sun all day long. I've noticed he'll lay on the tile in the kitchen and bask in the sun if the back door is open to the glass storm door. I do keep a good watch over him though and make sure he doesn't stay out too long.

Very informative post! ;0)
