THE PUPPIES VISIT THE VET

This morning,
Becky and Ruairi
got "kenneled up" and
before we knew what was happening,
they left to go for their Vet visit.

This is Dr. Jim
at Carroll Veterinary Clinic.
He is our favorite doctor there
and we always enjoy seeing him.
(This is a younger, smaller Becky -
today she weighed 9 lbs 14 oz
and Ruairi weighted 10 lbs 5 oz)

And here is Miss Becky
sitting in the swing.
She wants to remind everyone
to take care of their pet's health.
She and Ruairi had their rabies
vaccinations today, plus distemper-parvo shots.

These are both important vaccinations,
but we can not stress enough
how important it is for you to give your pet
a monthly heartworm preventative medicine,
such as Interceptor.
And since we just lost our dear friend, Digby
to complications from a tick bite,
we also need to remind you how important
it is to use a flea/tick preventative such as Front Line.
Your peeps also need to do a daily check on you
to make sure there are no ticks that
have got into your fur -
it's their bite that will make you ill.
They can jump on for a ride,
bite you and then get off again.
Have your peeps mark your calendars
so they remember what days to give
you the treatments.
We get ours on the first day
of every month.

And be truthful with your Vet.
Our Vet is very prudent about vaccinations
and doesn't want to give us needless treatments,
but he needs to know what types of dangers,
i.e. fleas, ticks, etc,
that we encounter on a daily basis
so he knows the best way to treat us.

Have a great day and
remember "it's a jungle out there".

XOXO
Lilly, Piper, Carrleigh, Ruairi and Becky

We had a good remind after visiting my folks to use Frontline. We pulled 4 ticks off Pippi after that visit.

Our mom needs Frontline...so far this season, she's had 3 ticks, we've had none!

We use Interceptor, and then Frontline for when Mom and Dad take us places that have fleas and ticks (we don't get them here because of altitude).

You are absolutely right about getting checked all over for ticks! We both get our Frontline but I did get bit and I did get that nasty tick-borne disease and it did lead to kidney disease! Thank you for this very important post, guys!

Love ya lots,
Maggie

Great advice. We're VERY lucky. No rabies in Oz. AND where we live, no fleas or ticks. But we have to be very careful if we go into another area. However, we have our needles against all the other nasties, and heartworm.

We are having a nasty year for ticks down here in Georgia...only thing that really works is a good inspection every run through the yard. Thanks for the Vet reminders!

That is very great advice! Mom keeps all of my shots up to date and uses Frontline and Heartworm meds on me. We hate ticks. Mom got bit by one years ago and ended up with Rocky Mt. Spotted Fever. Ticks are bad news! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly

Thank you for all the great advice you gave us. We also use Frontline and take heartworm medicine! Ticks are the nasty little creatures out there, I seem to always bring one in after those long hikes in the woods.

HI Lynn and scotties,
TICKS TICKS. I get so many ticks at least one a day but some days 2 or 3 ticks, me Fern is getting them!!!!!!!!!!!! It has made me sick many years. It started back in 84 with Joker. I have to take antibiotics every so often to get clear from all the bites. I use spray, dryer sheets and avon's SOS and still get ticks. This year is really a bad year!!!!!

Hi never forgotten friends! We got to spend some time reading to catch up on your blog tonight. We think about you all the time! It was great to see your pictures and to read your sage advice. Both Jake and I have had our annual health exams, and our moma's calendar is marked for our Heartworm and Frontline meds.

Things have been a bit busy, but we're happy. We don't really expect things to slow down much for a while, but we're trying hard to read at least a little bit each night after everyone else goes to bed.

Hope you are well. Those cute pups are enough to make anyone smile!

Hi Scotties
Thank you so much for explaining to me why the vet seems so fond of jabbing me with a needle. I mean, Gail did explain too, and the vet, but you know us terriers, we are independent thinkers and don't necessarily accept everything we are told. But now I have it from the mouth of a true terrier friend (better yet, a Scottish one) I really do believe it!

Becky is too cute! Their visit to the vet looks fun! Great advice too...Mom doesn't use Frontline for me and Kenji, but we do get very regular body checks (aka massages) from Mom for ticks, and if we have them, they get picked out. Sometimes if it's the tick season, we get 'tick baths' too!

If only we were 3000 miles closer to Virginia ! I'm hoping that the puppys we see next week won't be anywhere near as yours - otherwise the family will be growing again and rapidly.

Oh yes, we agree. Although we don't like the needles much, we just went for our annual dose of injections.
We even got one for heartworm. That way we don't have to remember that as well on a monthly basis. We just get the shot once a year.
They had some trainee vet there this time though so she was poking us a fair bit. Never mind, we got a whole pack of treats to make up for it so that was ok.

Good adviIse! I take Maggie to the groomer every other Tuesday. I know, she's spoiled! I'm terrible about brushing her and I don't want her to get matted if I wait too long in between trips. I call it her day spa. Her groomer is the best. Most visits it's just a bath and brushing. Then she spends the rest of the day playing with her friends. I leave it to the groomer to let me know when she needs a full clipping.

The best part is they are owned by the local vet and are in the same parking lot and their computers are linked. I'll take Maggie in and they will tell me if she is due for her shots. While she is there they will give her the needed vaccines and I don't have to make a special trip over to the vet.

I use Revolution on her which is for fleas, ticks and heartworm all in one. They come with calendar stickers which I can use as a reminder.

My philosophy is that if you are going to have a pet, do it right or don't have one at all!!!

Our Mom hates ticks so she puts that stuff on our backs. We don't like it, but she plays a game with us that involves lots of treats, so it's not so bad. Mom says this is a bad year for ticks.

Good advice from the puppies :)
I am glad they are in good health.

sometimes us doggies don't realise how important it is going to the vet.

Thank you :)

Love, Bella.

Great advice! We almost lost a dog once to Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from a tick bite. It was a miracle he pulled through. The only prevention that works for us for ticks is the tick collar. The other solutions don't work for us. The collars are ugly, but who cares when life and death matter. The puppies are as adorable as always!!

The babies looked so well behaved at their vet. Sweet little munchkins. When you ended with 'it's a jungle out there' now you have me humming that tune by Randy Newman (theme song from the series Monk). Thanks!

Here's a secret. We're not sure who loves our vet better. Us? Or our Moma? (She's had a big crush on him for years and years and years. She never avoids a chance for any of her four-leggeds to go see him!)

Hee hee!
