MOM AND DAD TOOK A MICRO-MINI-VACATION

On Sunday,
Mom and Dad
got us up early.
We walked, drank water, ate
and then got ready
so they could leave us!

and go stand in this line.
It really looks like a lot of people
milling around in a room,
but according to Mom and Dad,
this was an organized line.

When they got to the end of the line,
they saw this sign.
It doesn't seem like too many people
when you live in the city,
but where we live,
that's a lot.

The Meadows of Dan
Fire Department and Ruritan Club
were having their annual pancake breakfast.
It is the last 2 Sundays in October.
They have buckwheat cakes, pancakes,
homemade sausage and gravy.
Also butter and syrup.
Mom said it was really yummy.
Even though she grew up here
she had never tried buckwheat cakes and gravy.

Once they left the breakfast,
they went to
Poor Farmer's Market
.
Dad teased Mom for acting like a tourist
when they were less than 30 miles from home.
In her mind Mom could hear
the pumpkin chorus singing
with the wind-chime band.

The colors of the mums
were just phenomenal.
And the cabbage grown on the mountain
is famous for miles around.

Virginia is also famous for it's apples.

This is a corn maze.
Mom didn't get too close to it -
somehow it just freaks her out
thinking about getting lost in
all of that corn.
There was a corn maze
at our local high school
that had an unwelcome visitor
this past weekend.
A black bear got in there
and chased the kids out.
It's a good thing that Mom didn't
hear this until later in the day.

Their next stop was at
Greenberry House.
And Mom finally
got to meet a fellow blogger.
Leslie Shelor is the proprietor
of Greenberry House
and quite a talented artisan.
Mom and Leslie
decided that it was time for
Mom and Tammy
at Footheel Sock Knitter blog
to meet,
so they made arrangements
to meet at
Greenberry House
next week.
If anyone is close by,
we're sure they would like to meet you too.
The pancakes had settled
so they decided to do
a
little wine tasting
at
Chateau Morrisette Winery.
And Mom was pleased to see
that one of their new wines
is dedicated to service dogs.
It made her think of our
friend, Clive.

We know you can't tell what this is,
but they are sheep -
that desperately need sheering.
Their fuzzbutts rival any 'dales'.

Their ride through the countryside
took them to Buffalo Mountain.

The next stop
was to do a little cider tasting
at Foggy Ridge CIder.
Here they saw an unusual site -
even for the mountains -
a mule drawn wagon.
And the last stop of the day
was at
Blacksnake Meadery
where Mom fell in love
with the screen door.
But she found out that
she does not like mead.

We missed them while they went
on this little jaunt,
but they came home
feeling like they had been
on a little vacation.
They were only gone a few hours
so we were able to stay home alone.

XOXO

What a wonderful day trip! At first we got excited, thinking maybe they were coming to see us in the Rocky Mountains (babies, compared to your Blue Ridge), but when we read about the day, we were sorry we weren't THERE to share it with them! So many places! So much variety! And such a nice day! You were very good little doggies to let them have this time, and we're sure you were amply rewarded. Right? xxoo

Love
Jake and Fergi

(glad your mom must be feeling better!)

Looking forward to our meeting at

Greenberry. I have a friend who has been wanting to go and see the fibers. I was w/ her when she bought a new spinning wheel from our lys. And I tried to help her one day last week w/ a lesson. I'll
see if she would like to come. You would like her too.

Did they get an order of pancakes to go? Or maybe bring you an apple or two? SHE brought us apples back from the mountains where Nana n Poppaw live. And a punkin n a cabbage that was bigger than the punkin. We ate cabbage for days! Fried cabbage, slaw, boiled cabbage and I think there is still a hunk left in the veggie drawer for nibbling raw. All this talk of food here and on Jazzi's blog is making me HUNGRY and that sensitive tummy dog food is just lingering in my bowly.
Sniffies,
Bonnie

Now you really need to get your Mom and Dad better trained. Did they never go to obedience classes? I mean, how could they go on a mini-vacation and not bring you back some of those delicious pancakes?!
Better luck next time!

What a lovely day out for your mom and dad. I hope you didn't get up to any mischief while they were gone.
