OUR MINI ORCHIDS

When we step
out on our porch
this time of year,
we are greeted
with a delightful aroma.

Our house is surrounded
by Catalpa Trees
or as we tend to call them -
"bean trees".

They have lovely blooms.
that last for about a week.

The blooms hang in clusters
among the large leaves
that are about the size of dinner plates.

Each individual bloom
is approximately the size
of a quarter
and resembles a small orchid.

Soon they will fall like snow
and be replace with long beans
which are food for catalpa worms.
Luckily, we never get the worms!!

Have a great weekend.

XOXO
Lilly, Piper, Carrleigh and Ivy

  1. Bosco, Emma and I truly believe we need to move in with you for a very long vacation. Rocky Creek is certainly beautiful...you have your very own slice of heaven! We love you! Kerry, Vicki, Bosco and Emma

  2. I wonder what Rory, Fiona, and Argyle would do with the long beans? Run around with them hanging out of their mouths? Try to get you 3 to chase them? The imagination runs wild!

  3. I remember seeing those beans on the ground. We do have one or two of those trees here, but I don't remember seeing the blooms or smelling them. How beautiful, thanks for the photos!

    Hugs to all,

  5. THose trees are beautiful and how nice that they smell good. We used to have Bradford Pear trees that smelled like dead fish when they flowered. Not good!

  11. Very pretty! And I know I still owe you a very late PIF gift. I have all the stuff, now I just need the time to do the handwork. I think you'll love it - when I get it to you. ::sorrytobethelamefirend:: g

  15. My Grandmother would take those long bean pods and dry them, tie them with twine in bunches and make big wreaths for the Historical Society Museum. They turn a shiny kind of burnt brown.
Wish I could smell country air.
