WE TURN OUR BACK ON MOM AND DAD FOR A FEW MINUTES.........

...and they are in the truck and gone.

They crossed New River several times.

And drove through little communities
with pretty country churches.

They saw one of Virginia's
few covered bridges,

drove on really curvy country roads

and thought they might
do a little dancing.

In about an hour,
they reached their destination.
No, they didn't get to stay in this cabin,
only photograph it.
But we understand that it can be rented.

The gazebo where the "dance"
took place -
there is no water in the lake now,
so it's not quite as picturesque
as it was when the movie was made.

The staff quarters.

And Johnny was scorned by
"Baby's" father
at the entrance to the restaurant.

But the famous "Kellermans"
still retains it's majestic beauty -
it was built here in the 1930's.

They walked down from the hotel entrance
to the barn where the famous
Oktoberfest
would be held.

Entertainment was provided
by
The Sauerkraut Band.

Wonder what job,
our upcoming holiday
provides for this member of the band?

And the chicken dance....
Mom was so happy that Dad
pointed out one of our table mates
that would probably comply -
that kept her back in the audience and watching.

While Mom and Dad
didn't have
"the time of their life",
it is safe to say that they
really enjoyed it.

And we guarded the homestead.

XOXO
Lilly, Piper, Carrleigh and Ruairi

Sorry you didn't get to go, but I guess that someone has to be a keep those home fires buring and be a left-behinder! :-) I would love to visit "Mountain Lake" someday too since it's not that far away from us either! 14. A beautiful adventure. A fun time. And a WONDERFUL post. For what more can we ask? Well. How was the Homestead when they returned? And did they bring consolation treats? Maybe a spare chicken?

What a great weekend for them. And, presumedly, you adorable Scotties. After all, it's October in the Blue Ridge Mountains!
