WHERE WERE YOU?

We're turning the blog over to Mom today.

Eight years ago, we saw a defining moment in our nation's history. It was one of those moments that sticks in your mind forever. Where were you when you heard the horrible news about the attack on our soil?

At the time, we were living in Southern California and I was on my way to work. I heard the news on the radio and thought it was a hoax, but I immediately called my husband who was still at home and told him to turn on the television. At that moment in time, I heard the devastating news that our nation had come under attack. Gary, my husband, was a newly retired Marine and the first thought that came to my mind was that he would be called back to active duty. Thank God, he wasn't called back.

One of my coworkers was a native New Yorker. I felt so sorry that day as she tried in vain to contact some of her family members. She finally was able to telephone a niece who reassured her that no one in her family was hurt.

But thousands were hurt or killed. And since then, we have lost a countless number of military heroes. Today, please take a moment to remember them and their families. The lives of the families was changed in an instant. Remember the noble firefighters and their families. It was a sad day for our nation and at that moment many people realized how important life is to us. God bless America.

Long may she wave,
Lynn

I was working from home. The Mr. is a small plane pilot and he called to have me turn on the news as he heard s small plane had flown into one of the towers. I click on the news and told him it wasn't a small plane and it looked deliberate as it was such a clear day. Just at that time the other plane came in and struck and I went OMG and fell to my knees and started bawling and praying at the same time. No, I will NEVER forget....and I'm having a hard time forgiving too.

I too was watching Good Morning America and saw the second plane hit!!! I was in shock and glued to the T V the rest of the day. I was watching it live and couldn't still believe what I was seeing.
I have another reason to remember 9-11. My Mother died 4 years ago, at 5:15 P M on 9-11.

At that time, I was working at an upholstery shop and we heard the news on the radio. We all immediately turned on the small TV in the shop and watched in amazement and sadness. I feel for the families that we invovled, firefighters etc. We will always remember and pray that it will never happen to us again.

We really NEED to keep our country in prayers too. There are still people out there that would love to see our country brought down and I am concerned about our country's security, finances, debt, health insurance etc. Makes me nervous for future generations, how can they possibly pay for all this debt our leaders are incurring?

I was in lecture at dental school, and a classmate came in to interrupt - she said a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I remember thinking it must have been some little plane in foggy conditions. Then the shock and horror that overcame me as I got to a television just in time to see the second plane hit. We all stood there with our mouths agape in disbelief as the towers fell. Some of the administrators at the school wanted us to go on like nothing happened, but most of us ignored that and went home to our families. The rest of the day seems like a weird dream... I am forever indebted to all those who gave their lives that fateful day and in all the conquests thereafter. Glod Bless the USA!!

I was in a meeting at work and my husband called and said, "get home NOW" and hung up. I heard about it on the radio as I was driving home and was in my living room when the second tower collapsed.

NinaGirl and Moma were looking through a scrapbook of photos, celebrating our Girl's adoption anniversary. They turned TV on to listen to the news while they reminisced. Five minutes later Moma was on the phone, trying to reach her sister. Many hours later, she reached her. Unhurt but shaken, having witnessed the event from a Wall Street sidewalk. They will never forget. Ever.

Thank you for prompting the memories and allowing some of them to "go public". It can be healing, even as it grinds in the reality of what happened.
